I'm Bruno, a journalist and product manager at the . Before, I worked at the Brazilian fact-checking organization Aos Fatos , where I led a small team that developed tools to help empower journalists and create a healthier public debate.

Work

Below are some of the projects I worked on recently.

Escriba

A privacy-focused automatic transcription tool for journalists that supports 99 languages, with speaker labeling, YouTube integration, and real-time collaboration. It was the team’s first experience deploying AI models on our own servers.

I helped create Escriba and grow it to over 25,000 users. My role included conceiving the idea, managing development, creating and maintaining the product roadmap, and designing part of the user interface.

Fátima 3.0

The first AI-powered chatbot in fact-checking. Built with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), it lets users interact with Aos Fatos’ archive of articles using natural language via WhatsApp, Telegram, and a web app.

I conceived the idea and coordinated its implementation. I also developed the evaluation framework to ensure the bot’s reliability.

Aos Fatos revamped its website and brand identity in 2024 to improve reader experience and better reflect the company’s evolution into a hub of innovation for news and fact-checking.

I coordinated the year-long process, which included selecting a design studio, restructuring the website’s information architecture, and redoing the front-end from scratch to use a modern React framework.

Check-up

An open-source tool that uses Large Language Models (LLMs) and web scraping (Playwright) to detect misleading ads on major Brazilian news websites.

I conceived the project, led its execution, and did the data analysis (in R) for a report revealing that 90% of health-related native ads on leading Brazilian websites contained harmful misinformation.

Senior Product Manager at

I lead digital product delivery for the BBC’s US and UK election coverage, from the data platform that ingests results to the live results pages, banners and maps audiences use across BBC News on web and app.

2021 — 2025

Innovation director at Aos Fatos

I led an innovation lab developing AI tools for journalism, overseeing product strategy and coordinating implementation with a multidisciplinary team.

Beyond product development, I managed fundraising and technology partnerships, including project design, grant applications, contract negotiations, and partner relations. I also led consulting initiatives on misinformation and harmful content for major companies and NGOs such as Google, Kwai, Telegram, Spotify, the Global Disinformation Index, and the National Democratic Institute.

My work has been featured at international conferences including Global Fact, Media Party, the JournalismAI Festival, the AP and Poynter Summit on AI, Ethics and Journalism, and the Brazilian Conference of Investigative Journalism.

Reporter and later editor of Radar, an open-source investigation unit at Aos Fatos.

2017 — 2018

MSc at University College London

Distinction in the course Democracy and Comparative Politics. For my dissertation, I researched the impact of presidential impeachments on the public trust in democracies in Latin America.

2013 — 2017

Reporter/Editor at Folha de S.Paulo

I held multiple positions at Folha de S.Paulo, Brazil’s largest newspaper. I began as a technology reporter, covering everything from consumer tech and the development of Brazil’s Internet Civil Rights Framework to the Snowden leaks.

I later served as interim editor of the Small Business section before shifting my focus to politics in 2015. In that role, I covered the Car Wash Operation and the 2016 Brazilian national elections. That same year, I was dispatched to Haiti to report on the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. I have also reported internationally from India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
